Eating out Perhaps surprisingly, given the sophistication of so many of Hampstead’s residents, it doesn’t have any restaurants which are world-renowned. For that, residents have to travel elsewhere – but not far as excellent restaurants are nearby in Primrose Hill, the West End, the City, and nowadays the nearer side of the East End. However, many people prefer anyway to stroll somewhere local, where you can enjoy a drink with your meal, without fear of a breath test on the way home. Around its centre Hampstead has an abundance of restaurants of all kinds, from the classy to the homely, with more to be found in Swiss Cottage and in Belsize Village. And, it being Hampstead, it is not just for the food that you eat out. There are great venues for people-spotting too – the group on the next table might well include a famous actor or entrepreneur, film director or musician, artist or footballer. It’s that kind of place. |
